The Advanced Guitar Player Jazz Standards section is a growing collection of ideas, videos, tabs and lead sheets for the most popular jazz standards!
I personally believe that apart from the scales, chords, ear training and music theory necessary for any advanced musician, an essential part of becoming a great guitar player is becoming familiar with a large repetoire of standard tunes.
For this reason, I am uploading Lead Sheets for the Jazz Standards that appear in the Real Book or in Jamey Aebersold's Play Along Series.
Below is a list of the Lead Sheets that have been included so far. The source is in brackets and I strongly suggest that you buy yourself a copy of the Real Book or one of the Aebersold Selections.

Au Privave is the classic bebop blues in the key of and a great tune for getting your fingers around those intricate little Charlie Parker licks and will also give insights into bebop phrasing..
Unfortunately, at the jam sessions I go this bebop jazz blues standard doesn't get played as often as I'd like.
Anyway, here's the Real Book Lead Sheet which you can print using the PDF icon, email to yourself or share over the Internet.

Girl From Ipanema was written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto in the early Sixties and a combination of the guitarist's wife Astrid and American sax player Stan Getz turned it into a massive hit. It has since become the Bossa Standard par excellence - this makes it sound a bit old hat at times.
However, the changes are quite challenging for a beginner and are a good introduction to the flat five substitutes (F#7 for C7) that are so typical of Bassa Nova.
Anyway, here's the Real Book Lead Sheet which you can print using the PDF icon, email to yourself or share over the Internet.

All Of Me was written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simmons back in the 1930s and often tends to be played in a fast Gypsy Swing style by guitar players - this doesn't have to be the case though, and it can be bopped quite easily and slowed down quite considerably (the Real Book Lead Sheet indicates Medium Swing!).
The changes are quite challenging for a beginner but the good thing is that you get two bars of each chord throughout the majority of the song - this gives you time to explore arpeggios, modes and blues scales to the full.
Anyway, here's the Real Book Lead Sheet which you can print using the PDF icon, email to yourself or share over the Internet.

All Of Me Lyrics
All of me Why not take all of me Can't you see I'm no good without you Take my lips I want to lose them Take my arms I'll never use them Your goodbye left me with eyes that cry How can I go on dear, without you You took the part that once was my heart So why not take all of me |
